Along with being a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, I am also a Certified Sports Counselor. In 2001 I became interested in obtaining this certification for several reasons, including working part time with Champion Athletic Consulting in Columbus, OH. A lifelong athlete, I competed on the Track and Cross-Country teams for four years at the University of Toledo, and now continue to compete in various races throughout the year. Eventually, I decided to make this specialty a part of my current private practice and have been working with teams, coaches, parents, and individual athletes since.
Sports Counseling Services
As I am sure you are aware, there are many athletes who experience multiple adjustment issues that can interrupt their performances on and off the field. As a counselor who has experienced years of athletic competition myself, I specialize in helping coaches, parents, and athletes reach their full potential by helping them cope with multiple issues that may come up during their athletic seasons. Therefore, I make myself available as a referral source for student-athletes, professional athletes, coaches and parents as needed. I have experience incorporating my skills at various schools, colleges, sports camps, and one-on-one with parents, coaches, and athletes in Ohio. I work with all levels of athletes.
When helping athletes, I am able to work with them one-on-one at my office, or I can provide on-site services for an entire team. Of course, my services can be tailored as needed. Some specific topics that I have focused on with athletes and teams include (but are not limited to):
1) Applying proven mental training skills to improve athletic performance (i.e., goal setting, concentration skills, imagery, relaxation training, positive thinking).
2) Balancing athletics and academics successfully.
3) Ways to deal with slumps and burnout.
4) Stress management during competition and in life.
5) Nutritional and health differences between male and female athletes.
6) Dealing with concerns for performance enhancement supplements and/or substance abuse.
7) Improving motivation and self-confidence.
My scope of practice allows me to be able to focus on any mental-health issues that may arise for an athlete as needed.

Although my sports background is running, I can help any athlete in any sport at all levels.
