I have over 18 years of counseling experience, and my clients include children, adolescents, and adults in both individual and family modalities. My educational background includes undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology and clinical counseling, along with a certification in sports counseling. I am trained to see clients for a variety of issues, including (but not limited to) behavioral problems, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, ADHD, marital problems, and family-related difficulties such as divorce. I am also trained and specialize in sexual dysfunction. In addition, I have applied my sports counseling background to helping athletes and coaches in reaching their full potential. I also offer supervising services to interns and professionals seeking licensure. My professional experience includes working in the schools, a mental health center, a group private practice and now my own private practice. I also share my practice with my husband, Dr. Kevin J. Meyer, PhD. If for some reason you are unable to see me and/or request a different therapist for any reason, you can always contact and see him at this office as well (see above link).
Appointments
When setting up an appointment, I typically am able to call or email you back within 24hrs and get you in within a week or less. I handle all of my calls and appointments unless I am ill and my practice partner, Dr. Kevin J. Meyer, PhD, MFT, will call you back. I currently offer many day and afternoon appointments, as well as limited evening and Saturday appointments. The initial appointment is a consultation/assessment appointment and typically lasts approximately an hour. I'll assess what brought you to counseling, your symptoms and/or situation, your background and facilitate your goals for treatment. Follow-up sessions are typically 45 min. and can be set up before you leave your initial appointment if needed or desired. I am able, with your permission, to work with outside professionals you may also be working with to collaborate your treatment and ensure continuity of care.
Billing
Payment is collected at the time of service, however, I accept multiple insurances and if you are on a plan I accept, any applicable co-pay will be collected instead at each appointment. Should the need arise, I am always willing to work with clients if I don’t take their insurance or if they do not currently have health insurance. I accept cash or check only.
If you have any questions, need an appointment or have a referral, I can be reached anytime at 330-280-7724 or dawnaka@netzero.com.
